Treatment
Shadowed lower lids, lifted by filling the hollow that casts the shadow rather than bleaching the skin.
What it is
The skin beneath the eyes is among the thinnest on the body, with very little fat underneath. Because of this, the underlying muscle and blood vessels can show through, creating the familiar reddish-blue or shadowed appearance associated with under-eye dark circles.
Genetics, sun exposure, hormonal changes, poor sleep, iron or vitamin deficiencies, allergies and natural ageing can make the skin even thinner and deepen these shadows. At Dr. Priti Eye Aesthetics, treatment is tailored to the underlying cause for a more natural and refreshed under-eye appearance.
The treatment
When rest, hydration and cold compresses no longer improve under-eye shadows, carefully selected dermal filler may be used to restore volume in the hollow and soften the shadow that appears as darkness. In suitable patients, filler can also create a smoother transition between the lower eyelid and cheek.
When the concern is loose skin or prominent under-eye fat rather than volume loss, Lower Blepharoplasty may be a more appropriate option. Fat repositioning or fat transfer may also be considered as part of a personalised under-eye rejuvenation plan.
